2020 Jeep Renegade – Bad Result To Crash Test

The passenger compartment of the Jeep Renegade remained stable in the frontal offset test. Dummy readings showed good protection of the knees and femurs of both the driver and passenger. Jeep showed that a similar level of protection would be provided to occupants of different sizes and to those sitting in different positions. In the full-width rigid barrier test, protection of the driver’s neck and that of the rear passenger’s chest was rated as marginal, based on dummy readings of tensile forces and rib compression respectively. Otherwise, protection was good or adequate. In the side barrier impact, protection of all critical parts of the body was good and the car scored maximum points in this test. In the more severe side pole impact, readings of rib compression indicated marginal chest protection, with good protection of other body areas. Tests on the front seats and head restraints demonstrated good protection against whiplash injuries in the event of a rear-end collision. A geometric assessment of the rear seats indicated marginal whiplash protection. An autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system is available on the Renegade. However, as this is an option, it was not tested as part of this assessment.

In the frontal offset test, protection of all critical body areas was good or adequate for both the 6 and 10 year dummies. In the side barrier test, protection was good all-round, and the Renegade scored maximum points for this part of the assessment. The front passenger airbag can be disabled to allow a rearward-facing child restraint to be used in that position. Clear information is provided to the driver regarding the status of the airbag and the system was rewarded. One universal child restraint could not be properly installed in the rear centre seat as the centre console interfered with the positioning of the support leg. Otherwise, all restraint types for which the Renegade is designed could be properly installed and accommodated in the car.

The Jeep Renegade has a seatbelt reminder system for the front and rear seats. A lane support system helps to prevent inadvertent drifting out of lane. A camera-based speed limit recognition system informs the driver of the local speed limit and can be set to limit the speed of the vehicle appropriately. The AEB system is an option and is not included in this assessment.
